Welcome to Muncie Parks and Recreation, a fall 2021 ethnographic production by students in Professor Jennifer Erickson’s ethnographic methods class in cultural anthropology at Ball State University.
On this website, we center our analysis on some of Muncie’s largest and oldest parks: Heekin, McCulloch, Westside, and Tuhey, four of 32 municipal parks. Based on ethnographic evidence, we show how Muncie’s parks serve as a lens for the city of Muncie, as well as the role of urban public space more broadly.
